The Spirit of St Louisans never ceases to amaze me
This week, I have been humbled by the Spirit of St Louisans. I like to think of myself as a nice person but I certainly pale in comparison to so many people who really give their all.
On Thursday of this last week, I was honored to be able to hear Midge and Paul McKee speak at the South Side Investment Club. This was my second time this year to hear the McKee’s and each time was impressive. We learned on Thursday that his northside regeneration has been picked to be part of the Federal Government’s Strong Cities Strong Communities program. McKee has been working on this development for over 11 years and it is all finally paying off. Hats off to them. They truly have The Spirit of St Louisans!
Then on a smaller note, my sister and I happened across The Filling Station yesterday. Dan and Dale Fitzhenry are the creators of this quirky little eatery. Dan and Dale wanted to give back to the community by turning a rundown, abandoned gas station into a place to “Feed Your Body Fill Your Soul”. He serves brats and hot dogs along with premium ice cream from The Creamery at Central Dairy in Jefferson City, Mo. Oh he has a popcorn machine too. This slide show will make you smile.
He told us that he wanted to provide a spot where all ages would find memorabilia that was familiar to them. It is really a fun place.
The Filling Station is located at 5323 Kingshighway, St Louis, MO 63109 The hours of operation are
Noon to 9 on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
Noon to 10 on Friday & Saturday
3 to 9 on Sunday
Closed on Monday
Kudos to Dan and Dale. They truly have the Spitit of St Louisans.
