The owner of 19 Clydehurst in Webster Groves chose quality in this home
Most of my current clients fall into two groups: the thirty-somethings who are usually first time home buyers; and the over-65 buyers who are grappling with the delicate art of downsizing their lives. It has been my experience that the majority of buyers in both of these groups recognize the preference for quality rather than quantity in the homes they are buying. With the thirty-somethings it’s a matter of balancing time for family and work rather than becoming a slave to a house. For the over-65 group, they are looking for comfort and are placing more importance on happiness and satisfaction rather than ostentation.
In this home at 19 Clydehurst, the current owner has made many renovations that exemplify quality of life. For instance, in the master bedroom, he added a cozy sitting area by opening up some unused attic space. Not only did this add square footage, it also added some architectural interest with the exposed brick chimney and the ceiling height variances. Then he added a ductless heating and cooling system for comfort and energy efficiency.
The outdoor living space was expanded by installing patio doors from the master bedroom to a covered balcony. The balcony has a see-through roof and a ceiling fan. It has shades for the east and west exposures. In the winter, there are panels that can be easily put up which make it almost a three season area (and it protects the furniture).
Throughout the house, quality options have been implemented: vinyl-clad wood windows, upgraded stainless appliances, solid surface counters in kitchen and baths, alarm system with cameras, refinished wood floors.
Still in the mode of quality rather than quantity, the current owner added outdoor space in the design of the backyard.
It includes a hottub and a fireplace. It is fenced. It has a wood deck and a brick patio. It is fairly low maintenance.
All in all, If you are purchasing a home or renovating the one you own, recognizing the preference for quality or quantity has an effect of your quality of life.
19 Clydehurst Drive is being offered for sale for $285,000.
