Who are the Echo Boomers aka Millennial Generation aka Generation Y?
Echo Boomers are the largest US generation since the Baby Boomers (80 million) with birth dates from 1982 to 1995 (dates not clearly defined). They are a group plagued, like the Baby Boomers, with a lack of job opportunities and a society that is changing rapidly. They have observed the bubble burst and are very cautious about purchasing a home.
The Echo Boomers tend to buy smaller homes, on smaller lots and closer to work. Most of them have high education loans to pay back. They prefer urban and diverse neighborhoods. They want their homes to have good social space in family-friendly and dynamic neighborhoods. Their commute time is of utmost importance.
My son is an Echo Boomer born in January of 1982. He pretty much fits this description. He lives with his wife in a 1 bedroom condo in NYC, he really doesn’t like to drive and from high school forward told us he was living in an urban area. His wife lives within minutes of her job. They live 3 doors down from Central Park and it is definitely a family-friendly neighborhood.
